Saving Your Natural Tooth
Root canal therapy is a proven treatment that saves teeth damaged by deep decay, infection, or trauma. When the inner pulp of the tooth—containing nerves and blood vessels—becomes inflamed or infected, it can cause intense pain and lead to tooth loss if left untreated.
At Waratah Dental, we perform root canal therapy using modern techniques and gentle care to make the experience as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Why You Might Need a Root Canal:
- Persistent toothache or sensitivity to heat/cold
- Swelling or tenderness in the gums
- A darkened or discoloured tooth
- Deep decay or a cracked tooth
What to Expect: The Steps of Root Canal Therapy
(Typically completed over a few appointments)
- Examination and X-rays
Your dentist will examine the tooth and take X-rays to assess the extent of the damage and confirm whether root canal treatment is necessary. - Local Anaesthetic
The area surrounding the affected tooth is numbed to ensure you’re completely comfortable throughout the procedure. - Accessing the Pulp
A small opening is made in the crown of the tooth to reach the infected or inflamed pulp inside the root canals. - Cleaning and Shaping the Canals
The damaged pulp is carefully removed. The canals are then cleaned, shaped, and disinfected to eliminate bacteria and prepare them for sealing. - Filling and Sealing
Once the canals are thoroughly cleaned, they are filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to prevent future infection. - Restoring the Tooth
A temporary or permanent filling is placed. In most cases, a dental crown is recommended to restore strength, protect the tooth, and ensure long-term function.
